Goodrich Kitchen Remodel
Project: Kitchen
Location: Macalester-Groveland in St. Paul, MN
Architectural Style: 1921 duplex
Clients: a fun couple with two tweens
Team Effort: Tusk Builders, All Inc., Paskar Woodworking
The kitchen in the upper level of this 1921 Macalester-Groveland duplex hadn't been touched since the '90s. It was cold, cramped, low on storage and had none of the personality of the wonderful family living in it. Their inspiration for the remodel? Vintage hotel bars—warm, a little moody, layered with detail. We handled both the design and build—and had a lot of fun doing it.
Highlights from this St. Paul kitchen remodel:
We updated the layout to improve flow and add storage space, including a custom built-in pantry with pull-out shelves.
Details, details. Nothing was an afterthought—from the antique mirror backing the glass-front cabinets to the bar and rail hardware across the open shelves to the docking drawer we added for clutter-free device charging.
The beverage bar with a marble top and custom millwork is the kitchen's centerpiece. The vintage hotel bar vibe really shines here.
We painted the ceiling pink! It warms up the whole space in a gorgeous way.
The custom mosaic floor tile pattern from Mosaic Tile is one of our favorite things about this project. Add heated floors throughout, and you get a kitchen so cozy that the whole family loves to sit on the floor together after school and work.
